Stories of the last Vaqueros in California from the memory and experience of the great Latino writer Arnold Rojas, told as he straddles delicately the boundary between history and fiction. The stories gathered around the campfire and in the bunkhouse speak eloquently for the vanishing California Vaquero. These are stories from one who was there - in the middle of the Vaquero's world.
About the Author: Arnold R. Rojas success as the foremost chronicler of the life and traditions of the Vaquero lies in the fact that he was raised among the Vaqueros. At the age of nine he left behind forever the formal education offered by “Yankee school m’arms” and followed the life he loved among the Vaqueros. After thirty-five years of riding the ranges of California’s Great Central Valley – with years also devoted to the study of English and Spanish literary classics – Rojas began writing articles that were published in the Bakersfield Californian. With his popularity growing, seven books followed and have become some, if not the, most important literature on the California Vaquero.
