small 4to. Blue cloth with gilt spine lettering. xiv, 2,019pp. Very good. Faintest of binding wear only, with spine ever-so-lightly sunned, else tight and internally near fine. Exceptionally nice later printing of this classic first published in 1879. Three meaty columns per page. German philologist/lexicographer I.J.G. Scheller (1735-1803) got the ball rolling in 1783 with a 2-volume Latin-German dictionary; German-Jewish philologist Wilhelm Freudn (1806-94) used this to roll the ball further with his massive 1834-35 "Wörterbuch der Lateinischen Sprache"; American lexicographer E.A. Andrews (1757-1858) in turn rolled that ball further yet with his 1850 translation of Freund's work; and finally American lexicographers Lewis (1834-1904) and Short (1821-86) rolled out their (to cite title page) "Revised, Enlarged, and in Great Part Rewritten" classic in 1879.
