About this Item
Separate scores for each band instrument (some multiple copies) in folder. From the Foreword: The five best known Latin American Rhythms; Mombo (Mexico), Rhumba (Cuba), Samba (Brazil), Tango (Argentine) and Beguine (Central America) make up this composition. The band will announce each Rhythm as it is played, pronouncing the word with the Latin accent, not as it is spelled. SUGGESTIONS TO THE CONDUCTOR 1. LATINS AT LARGE is a composite of the five best known Latin American Rhythms; Mombo, Rhumba, Samba, Tango and Beguine. (Pronounced Be-geen). 2. VERY IMPORTANT. Bass and Snare Drum and Timpani parts must be played throughout this composition in preference to Maracas, Claves and Guiro. These Cuban rhythm instruments are important for color, etc., and should be played by extra drummers only. If there are no extra drummers available, surplus players in other sections of the band may be used on Maracas, etc. 3. You will notice preceding each of the five rhythms the notation BAND SHOUTS "MOMBO", etc. thus announcing each different rhythm. Each shout should be loud and very distinct and pronounced as written. (Shouts announcing each rhythm may be omitted.) 4. Conductor must insist that all accents be observed by players. This is very important in all Latin American music. THE COMPOSER David Bennett is the dean of composer-arrangers in America today. His name on any piece of music stamps it at once as a sparkling and brilliant composition. Music directors everywhere recognize and appreciate the quality and distinction of his work. Audiences enjoy it for the originality and charm so characteristic of the Bennett touch. A long and varied experience as performer, conductor and arranger has made David Bennett thoroughly familiar with the problems of players and directors alike. Directors welcome this awareness of teaching and conducting difficulties; youthful instrumentalists are grateful that his many works in the modern idiom are not too difficult for student performance. David Bennett's compositions for band are characterized by ingenious rhythms, dynamic and harmonic effects, governed throughout by sound musicianship and good taste. N1944. Oversize items (e.g. sets containing 2 or more volumes, 4to, folios) and high cost items are sometimes subject to additional shipping charges; we will contact you for your approval if such is the case. Orders shipped outside of the United States may be subject to import taxes, customs duties and fees levied by the destination country. International shipments may be subject to such import taxes, customs duties and fees, which are levied once a shipment reaches the recipient's country. Additional charges for customs clearance must be borne by the recipient; we have no control over these charges and can't predict what they may be. Customs policies vary widely from country to country; you should contact your local customs office for more information. When customs clearance procedures are required, it can cause delays beyond our original delivery estimates.
