If you are not a geologist, don't worry! I wrote this guide to be accessible to everyone. It is for those who hike with their eyes up - fascinated by the landscapes they see and curious about how they formed. While logistics are, of course, provided for trip-planning purposes, I encourage you to keep up with ever-changing trail conditions through Ferdafelag Island (https://www.fi.is/en/laugavegur/laugavegur-conditions). The book is also complimented well by the Serkort #4 (Landmannalaugar Fjallabak) 1:100,000 topographic map.

About the Author

Brian Zimmer teaches geology at Appalachian State University in the United States. Each year, he takes students to Iceland to learn about geologic hazards and to hike the Laugavegur trail. Brian has backpacked extensively throughout Europe, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Tanzania, and all around his home in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
