To his dismay, there is none to be found and he is sent off to the village of the Grumpies to find some. (Grumpies are a group of very disagreeable elves.) This sets the stage for an extraordinary adventure. Oolong must pass through the scary Dark Forest in order to get to the Grumpies’ village. Along the way, he learns a valuable life lesson from a wise old man who helps him when his pushcart looses a wheel. Oolong teaches this lesson to the Grumpies he encounters. A marvelous and wonderful thing happens when he returns home for the Laughing Day celebration.
About the Author
Dr. Hope, J.A.P.D. (Just A Pretend Doctor) Before Dr. Hope was finished with school he had lived in forty different environments. Despite being forcibly separated from his mother he had learned from her a spirit of optimism and humor that empowered him to cope with his ever-changing surroundings. As a young child he lived in foster homes, state run dormitories, with stepparents, grandparents and in boarding schools. He saw first hand abuses that most of us can only imagine. He vowed that as an adult one day he would find a way to give children the tools to help them cope with difficult situations and disagreeable people. To that end Dr. Hope started the à ¨LIFE LESSONS SERIESà ¨ of which Laughing Day was the first. Laughing Day teaches that the medicine for meanness is kindness. And that one simple act of kindness can have a ripple effect and become self-propagating. Chip, the Little Computer, the second in the series, teaches the power of determination and of believing in your dreams. The Frog Who Couldn't Jump, the third in the series, shows that striving for personal improvement is more important than winning first place. In other words: you don't have to come in first place to be a winner. Dr. Hope, who is also a talented piano player and composer, has teamed up with Comic/Actor/Singer RUSS T. NAILZ and is currently producing a series of delightfully humorous cassettes/CDs that make kids think, laugh and have an enjoyable time. Both Dr. Hope and Russ T. donate a portion of their royalties to Childhelp USA.
