With writings spanning more than five decades, award-winning author and literacy champion Doug Snelson shares, from his larger overall collection, a selection of verse reflecting his unique poetic perspective on the special and everyday events of his life in Laughter Includes the Word: Revealed, A Life of Poetry.
Included in the collection are copies of original handwritten drafts as well as original typewritten drafts from his Olivetti-Underwood typewriter. Each poem is accompanied by a brief commentary about the circumstances of its composition and the year it was written.

Included in the collection are copies of original handwritten drafts as well as original typewritten drafts from his Olivetti-Underwood typewriter. Each poem was written in real-time and is accompanied by a comment about the circumstances of its composition and the year it was written. Doug recently published his third children’s picture book, "Everybody Deserves a Hug". His two previous children’s books are "Who’s Got the Face?" and "The Fable of the Snake Named Slim", are popular with parents, educators, and children ages 4-9 years old. Doug is a previous winner of the Pinnacle Achievement Award from the North American Booksellers Association for Early Childhood Development as well as an Honorable Mention from the London Book Festival.Doug believes that children’s books should be fun, interactive, and educational. His philosophy on story telling is based on the idea that children and adults should be at play as much as possible. Doug holds a BS in Communications from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Communications as well as an MA in Communications from William Paterson University. He is a former officer in the United States Marine Corps.
