Law of Sex Discrimination

This text is written specifically for undergraduate students with no formal legal training. The strong narrative is enhanced with the integration of case excerpts and articles throughout that provide a variety of perspectives and examples. Revisions include up-to-date coverage and examples, added theory (with a new chapter on the controversial meaning of equality in feminist legal thought), and more explanation and discussion.

Beth Anne Wolfson is a labor and employment arbitrator, mediator, neutral fact-finder and an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Law, Taxation and Financial Planning Department of Bentley University, where she teaches courses in "Gender and the Law," "Current Issues in Labor and Employment Law," and "The Legal Environment of Business." She is also an Adjunct Professor at New England School of Law/Boston, where she teaches "Labor Law." Wolfson is a member of the Massachusetts Bar Association's Committee on Professional Ethics, a past Chairman of the its Labor and Employment Section Council and ADR Committee, and a member of a number of public and private arbitration, mediation and fact-finding panels. She has lectured on issues in arbitration including "Ethical Boundaries Between Arbitrators & Advocates," "Current Trends in Grievance Arbitration & Diverse Issues Faced by Labor Advocates," "Grievance Arbitration: Pet Peeves & Predictions for the Future," "Grievance Arbitration Training," and "Substantive Law Update: Title VII, ADEA, ADA, and Others," been a contributing author to "NLRA Law and Practice," and has published articles in "The Arbitration Journal" and "The Standard." Wolfson received her J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law and her B.A. from Brandeis University.

Carla M Palumbo has a distinguished record of service in law, government and community activities. She has been an attorney with the Legal Aid Society of Rochester since 1984 and Director of the Civil Division since 1990. Included within the Civil Division are the following units: Health Education and Law Partnership, Family Law Unit, Housing Unit and Immigration Unit. Throughout her tenure at the Legal Aid Society, Ms. Palumbo has focused on program development from both a substantive and financial perspective. She provides direct client representation to victims of domestic violence. Ms. Palumbo has conducted numerous trainings and seminars in the area of domestic violence, including the Rule of Law program in Russia. In addition, Ms. Palumbo currently serves as a member of the Rochester City Council representing the Northwest District of Rochester. She served as Minority Leader of the Monroe County Legislature and a member of the County Legislature for 5 years. She is Vice-Chair of the Board of the Rochester Arts and Culture Council and a member of the Board of Directors of the New York State Bar Foundation. She received her law degree from Syracuse University College of Law, in 1982 and her Bachelor's of Art degree in Spanish and Italian from SUNY at Albany in 1979. She is the recipient of the 1999 NYS Bar Association Public Interest Law Award and the 2000 YWCA Women First Award.
