The Law of Spiritual Transformation

The Law of Spiritual Transformation is a work of Christian theology by George Edward Fifield (1859-1926), first published in 1929 by Richard G. Badger through The Gorham Press of Boston. The book is presented here in its first modern edition, restored after being rediscovered through a chance archival trace nearly a century after its original printing.

Fifield's central argument is that spiritual transformation follows a fixed and observable law: nothing rises to new life without first dying to the old. Organized around three movements-Crucifixion, Resurrection, and the Law of Compensation-the book traces this pattern from the cross itself outward into the whole of Christian experience, framing Christ's suffering not as a single historical event but as the ongoing, self-giving love of God made visible at Calvary. Fifield's work stands as a continuation of the emphasis on righteousness by faith associated with the 1888 General Conference message, extending its themes into a broader meditation on death, renewal, and the seed-and-harvest pattern he identifies at the center of the Christian life.

This pocket edition has been prepared by independent researcher and archivist Patrick Irving, who located the sole known surviving copy of the original 1929 printing. It includes a new scholarly foreword situating the book within Fifield's broader body of work and its historical context, along with a documentary appendix drawing on original letters, archival photographs, and other rare materials that trace the book's recovery and authenticate this edition against the original text.

Published by Father of Love Fellowship, this edition preserves Fifield's original wording, spelling, and emphasis, correcting only clear typographical errors from the source printing. It is intended for readers of Adventist and Seventh Day Baptist history, students of the 1888 message, and anyone interested in a rediscovered voice in the theology of Christian transformation.
