About the Author
Rick Ward was born in Tunica, Mississippi, on August 1, 1953, long before casinos cluttered the river. He has an Associate degree in law enforcement from Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, a B.S. in criminal justice from the University of the State of New York, and a Master s in education from the University of Hawaii. He is a graduate of the Mississippi State Police Academy, the U.S. Army Military Police School, and the FBI National Academy. Rick began his law enforcement career in 1975, becoming a uniformed police officer in Mississippi. Three years later, he became an undercover state narcotics agent then the chief investigator for Desoto County, Mississippi. After a short tour back in uniform as a police officer near Jackson, he re-enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1983 as a master at arms and was promoted through the ranks to lieutenant physical security officer. He left the navy again in 1995 but remained in the reserves and worked for the state attorney general investigating white-collar crime and political corruption. In 1998, Rick became a division director for the Mississippi Gaming Commission; his division was responsible for the largest number of arrests before or since. In late 2000, he became a Federal Employment Compensation Act fraud investigator under contract for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. After a six-month tour with the Southern Command as a navy reservist interdicting narcotics traffickers in El Salvador, he went to the northeast region for the navy. Rick was on a reserve assignment in New York City during the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center, and voluntarily accepted a full recall offer to active duty three weeks later. He was placed in charge of security and law enforcement for all bases in the entire Northeast before going to headquarters in Washington, D.C. for two years. He retired in late 2005 as a lieutenant commander, but continues to work for the navy as a Security, Law Enforcement and Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection expert consultant under a defense contract. Rick s actual experiences have inspired him to embellish real-life events and write fictitious scenarios that he believes will be enjoyed by readers interested in legal thrillers, crime and politics told from the perspective of a seasoned, well-rounded retired senior law enforcement officer.
