1867. A small state-issued 64 page bound booklet listing the laws pertaining to the public schools; the duties of towns, the powers and obligations of school districts, school funding, the school committee duties and powers, and the establishment of normal school. Includes an appendix of legal forms for use by school agents to carry out the business of the school districts. Tan self-wrapper stating 'School Laws of the State of Maine 1867'. Along with a little penciled arithmetic on the back cover, there is a water stain to the upper back corner that shows up on the upper corner of the last 20 pages but there is no smell of damp or other damage. Pages are smooth and unmarked; rubbing wear to the edges with some foxing and dog-eared pages throughout; no tears. Binding is sound. A peek into the business of educating Maine children in the post-Civil War era.
