Synopsis
Layers of Learning Unit 4-10 begins with the history of the Great Depression. We include economic bubbles, Hoovervilles, Keynesian economics, the New Deal, alphabet soup agencies, FDR and the "Four Freedoms" speech, and the Spanish Civil War. Then in geography we learn about the Heartland states with includes the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. Next in science learn about mountain building including fold mountains. We include types of folds, synclines and anticlines, fault-block mountains, geologic time, dome mountains and delamination. Finally in art learn about kinds of art. You'll learn about and create everyday art, drawings, paintings, mixed media, sculpture, and commercial art. In each unit you’ll find a recommended library list, important background information about each topic, and lots of activities to choose from for kids of all ages. Sidebars include a bunch more ideas including Additional Layers, Fabulous Facts, On The Web, Writer’s Workshop, Famous Folks, and Teaching Tips. Printable maps and worksheets are included at the end of each unit and may be printed as often as needed for your family or class.
About the Author
Karen and Michelle are sisters. Karen is a homeschooling mother of four with a bachelors in early childhood education. Michelle is a homeschooling mother of six with a bachelors in biology. They both live in Idaho.
