Adel Safty was born in Egypt and educated in France and England. He holds undergraduate university degrees in English and French Literature from the University of Paris III, and an Honours Bachelor of Law Degree from the University of London, England. He holds graduate degrees in political sociology and political science, and a PhD in International Relations from La Sorbonne University, Paris, France.

He is also a graduate of the Leadership Development Programme of the Centre for Creative Leadership in Brussels, Belgium, and a graduate of the John F. Kennedy School of Government Leadership Programme, at Harvard University.

Dr. Safty is University Professor, and former International Affairs Commentator for Global Television. Among his publications, his book From Camp David to the Gulf (Black Rose Books: Montreal and New York, 1992, 1997) was selected Publisher's Choice in 1993 and a second edition appeared in 1997. As Head of UN Mission and Director of the Leadership Academy, Prof. Safty organized and was president of the United Nations Leadership Conferences in the late 1990s that brought together distinguished leaders and scholars from over 100 countries. In 1997, Professor Safty received the First UNESCO Chair in International Leadership. He is currently Dean of Leadership and Public Affairs at Bahcesehir University-Istanbul. In 2002, Professor Safty was named Permanent UNESCO Chair in International Leadership.
