Leadership In The Time Of Chaos

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Leadership in the Time of Chaos is both a memoir and a survival manual, set against one of the most devastating days in Beirut's history. On August 4. 2020, a massive explosion tore through the city, crippling infrastructure and flooding the American University of Beirut Medical Center with casualties. In the middle of it all was COO Raed Rafeh-just one month into his role-forced to keep the hospital running as the city outside descended into chaos.

Told with unflinching candor and gripping detail. Rafeh's account reveals the split-second decisions, improvised solutions, and quiet acts of courage that held a fractured system together. It's a story of leading without a rule-book, of finding clarity in uncertainty, and of the ordinary people who became extraordinary when it mattered most. By the final page, one question lingers; when chaos strikes, will you be ready to lead?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Raed Rafeh never imagined he'd be at the center of one of the largest non-nuclear explosions in history. With a background in software engineering and public safety systems, he spent years designing emergency response solutions and implementing hospital information systems before stepping into his role as COO of the American University of Beirut Medical Center in 2020.

Just weeks later, he found himself steering the organization through a perfect storm-a collapsing economy, a pandemic, and the Beirut port explosion. His blend of technical skill, operational insight, and human-centered leadership guided him through the chaos-and proved that true leadership emerges when ordinary people rise to meet extraordinary circumstances.
