Synopsis

Exercising within a group has been acknowledged to have a positive influence on an individual's physical activity adherence. Various styles of instructional leadership have also played an integral role in long term group fitness participation. This study takes an ethnomethodological approach in examining the influence of both group exercise and leadership within the culture of fitness. Four styles of leadership are considered with a strong focus on the positive influences of transformational leadership on the exercise enjoyment and adherence of novice participants.
