Synopsis
Leading Matters captures the essence of true leadership by providing concise nuggets of wisdom from a number of proven leaders. As well, the book explains in a clear and easy-to-understand way how the seeming magic of good leadership can be understood as well as passed on to others.
Leaders learn to distinguish between what they know and what they don t know, in Leading Matters. The authors say, We thought we knew something about leadership. We talked about it. We read about it. We even led, from time to time. The more we thought we knew, the more we realized that we needed to know what we didn t know. This book speaks to those leaders who have had the same insight.
To this end, Morin and Dickson have written a book filled with tips, admonishments, and techniques for improving one s leadership abilities. Over 200 nuggets of wisdom accompany the text, provided by leaders who have proved themselves over the years. Short and pithy, these quotes contribute an additional dimension to the hot and current topic of leadership.
Self-assessment questionnaires help the leader to measure and improve his or her attitudes toward leadership that may or may not be impeding progress. The authors lead us through the steps of conceptualizing our vision, designing and building our leadership framework, and activating and deploying the framework. This book is intended for those who want to reach a new dimension in leadership.
