Leading With Purpose: A Practical Guide to Leadership in Volunteer Organizations

What does it really mean to lead when no one has to follow?

In volunteer organizations, leadership looks different. There is no formal authority to rely on, no guaranteed commitment, and no requirement for people to stay. And yet—when it works—it creates something powerful.

Leading with Purpose is a practical, experience-driven guide for anyone navigating leadership in volunteer settings. Whether you’re stepping into a role for the first time or have years of experience, this book offers insight into what truly drives engagement, connection, and long-term impact.

Drawing from decades of real-world experience, this book goes beyond theory to explore the human side of leadership—why people choose to show up, why they sometimes step back, and what makes them stay.
