Synopsis
Today's healthcare environment, especially Europe’s efforts to achieve meaningful changes to the health status of its population, is fraught with many challenges and opportunities for leaders to make a difference in achieving real healthcare reform coupled with sustained superior performance of their own organizations. Kenneth A. Rethmeier has combined his own 45 years of learning, experience in a variety of leadership roles coupled with many years of teaching, researching and consulting on the topic of leadership to create this book entitled Leading4Value. It was written with leaders and managers in mind. In short, he and his co-authors believe that a leader’s primary role is to add value in whatever he or she does! Leading4Value addresses many of the questions most healthcare professionals ask themselves everyday, such as: “What can do I do to really make a difference and achieve what I think our organization can achieve? How do I motivate others to want to work as hard as I am working? Does my vision about our future make sense? I see the healthcare needs of my community and I know what I think we can do to fix some of those challenges, but how do I start? And how do I get the other key organizations in our community to join us in this effort to make a difference? How do I get us out of the budget mess we are in? What is my real role as a leader? Do my values resonate with anyone else? I think I am overwhelmed. Does anyone really care?” To help answer those questions, Leading4Value provides leaders with a series of tools and exercises supported and based on a series of four conceptual models designed to help them reframe their own contribution to the success of their healthcare organizations and the communities they serve. The principal idea, then, is for Leading4Value to provide leaders with practical resources they can read and learn about they can put to use immediately within their organization to achieve the goals they have set out to achieve. In addition to the 51 tools/exercises in the book, Leading4Value also contains 13 "whiteboard" videos describing in greater detail some of the tools in the book as well as offering leaders a better understanding of how the tools will enhance their own leadership competencies. Leading4Value is about building and enhancing a leader’s skillsets. To help bring the concepts and tools to even greater value, Ken has brought together a group of European healthcare professionals he has had the opportunity to work with and values their commitment to excellence in guiding others in their leadership journey. Dr.’s Tobais Gantner from Germany, Kasia Czabanowska in The Netherlands, Tony Smith in the United Kingdom, and Daniela Valceanu in Romania represent a broad spectrum of expertise and experience in their own right who are now offering greater learning opportunities from their valuable contribution to this effort To complement the models and tools of the book, these dedicated healthcare professionals have crafted excellent real life case studies as part of the learning experience Leading4Value offers. In the final analysis, Leading4Value offers a practical learning experience committed to the idea that leaders need to feel their contribution produces results with meaning and results that are meaningful…new thinking…new and effective skills…leadership with real value!
