Publication # 156 of The Book Club of California. With a leaf from the Stirpium Historiae, Antwerp, 1583. Folio, [vi] 28 [4]. 1 leaf One of 385 copies designed and printed by Grant Dahlstrom. Cream-colored cloth with gilt spine titles and design on top cover in green. Plain tan dust wrapper. Book and dust jacket are in fine condition. The leaf included in this copy is from Pemptatis Quartae | Lib II. pages 525 / 526. There are four woodcuts of plants and their descriptions in Latin. The first is Linum Sylvestre on p. 525; the next, on the same page, is De Cannabe, with two woodcuts: Cannabis Sterilis and Cannabis Foeunda. The verso, page 526, continues and concludes the description of De Cannabe, and includes the next woodcut and entry for De Foenograeco (fenugreek). The book includes chapters on : A Brief History of Early Herbals; a chapter on Robert Dodoens, the next, a chapter on Christopher Plantin; a chapter on Dodoens's Herbal of 1583, Acknowledgments; Bibliography. For many years we were a partner in Chicago Rare Book Center, which closed in 2017. We are now on-line, and have a select general stock, with large sections on U.S. history, art, and literature. Books may be returned to us for any reason within ten (10) days of receipt, through prior arrangement, and in original condition and packed and shipped securely with insurance at full sale price. Unless books are not as described or were damaged in transit, all return postage/shipping to be paid by buyer.
Shipping terms
Shipping costs are based on books weighing 2.0 LB. If your book order is heavy or oversized, we may contact you to let you know extra shipping is required.
International priority mail rates are based on the book fitting in a padded priority mail envelope with enough extra room to provide cardboard protection for it. If it doesn't fit, priority mail rates will be higher. Please note, media mail shipments to Hawaii and Alaska may take longer than 30 days.
