Learn English With Cricket: B1 Level

Learn English with Cricket is a B1 intermediate English reader for learners who want to improve their vocabulary and reading skills through engaging, well-written stories about one of the world's most popular sports.

Written by Thomas Houston, the book contains fourteen chapters, each built around a different cricket story — the Ashes, the IPL, women's cricket, spin bowling, the 2007 World Twenty20, and much more. Two additional chapters explore the lighter side of the game: the strangest matches ever played, and the animals, rain delays and bad light that make cricket unlike any other sport. Further chapters cover the art of saving a Test match, and the long journey young cricketers make from their first backyard game to the international stage.

Each chapter follows the same clear structure: a reading text of around 800 words, a twelve-item glossary, two vocabulary exercises (including gap fills, true/false questions and matching activities), seven discussion questions, and a full answer key. A Test Your Memory section at the end draws on vocabulary from all fourteen chapters.

Suitable for:

• B1 intermediate English learners studying independently
• EFL and ESL students preparing for exams or looking to expand their vocabulary
• Language teachers looking for engaging, ready-to-use classroom reading material
• Cricket fans around the world who want to improve their English while reading about the sport they love

The book assumes no prior knowledge of cricket — every chapter explains what readers need to understand the story. Topics are chosen to appeal to learners from India, Pakistan, the Caribbean, the UK, Australia and beyond, with chapters on the IPL, West Indian cricket, women's cricket and cricket's growing popularity in the United States.

Learn English with Cricket is ideal for classroom use or self-study, and works equally well as a standalone reader or as supplementary material alongside a main coursebook.
