About the Author

Bill Zima began his career as a zoo educator, creating and delivering learning opportunities for students in their schools and guests at the Phoenix Zoo and Disney's Animal Kingdom. Seeking something that was a bit more dynamic, he became a 7th grade science teacher. He is currently a middle school principal. Bill is also an original member of the Maine Cohort for Customized Learning, an organization dedicated to the promotion of learner-centered, proficiency-based education systems in Maine. He also serves as a board member for the Maine Association for Middle Level Education. Bill's past life experiences, never being afraid to take a chance, as well as research in neuroscience and education continue to convince him in the power of the mind when the learner is allowed to seek his or her own understanding. He lives with his wife and two children in Portland, Maine.
