Learning in African Tongues: Constructing a Language-Based Curriculum Model with Theological Education Tools (Studies in Education)

As the gospel spreads and more ministers are called around the world, theological institutions are tasked with providing rich scholarship in a contextualized manner. In this groundbreaking study, Dr. Gentleman Gayus Dogara tackles curriculum reformation through a linguistic approach in order to recognize and develop local languages, within Africa and beyond, as part of theological institutions official activities. By using the Hausa language within Nigeria's Kaduna State as a model for providing theological education in vernacular contexts, Dr. Dogara expertly highlights the benefits of integrating vernacular languages with English and other official languages in academia while addressing the impediments to its successful implementation. This timely work develops a multipurpose curriculum of equal opportunity that serves the contextual needs of students, ultimately solidifying education from an African perspective. This is a must-read for theological institutions, educators, and students who seek the continual growth and development of Christian leaders without any cultural or linguistic barriers.
