One man's journey from the dusty streets of Jinja to the classrooms of England and the transformative power of education that made it all possible.

Born into poverty in rural Uganda, Bill Isiko was the youngest of ten children in a family that could barely afford survival, let alone schooling. By age ten, he was already selling goods in the market to help support his family. But when he discovered a torn schoolbook lying in the dirt, something sparked inside him: a hunger for knowledge that would not be denied.

Learning for a Change is the powerful true story of a man who refused to let circumstance define his destiny. From returning to primary school at sixteen as the oldest student in the class, to teaching himself electronics in a garage workshop, to opening his own business, to crossing an ocean and rebuilding his life from nothing in England. Bill's journey is a testament to the belief that it is never too late to learn.

But his path was not without darkness. Betrayal, heartbreak, and a devastating prison sentence threatened to erase everything he had built. Yet even behind bars, Bill clung to the one thing that had always carried him forward: education.

This book is for anyone who has ever felt:

Held back by their circumstances or upbringing
Too old to start over or pursue their dreams
Invisible in a world that refuses to see them
That their past mistakes have defined their future

Bill's story proves otherwise. Through sheer determination, faith, and an unshakeable commitment to learning, he earned a BA and an MSc, rebuilt his family, and discovered that the greatest transformation begins the moment we choose to learn.

Perfect for readers of inspiring memoirs, stories of resilience, and anyone searching for the courage to begin again.

"It is never too late to become the person you were meant to be."

We first started out as ?The Paperback Exchange,? a chain of physical bookstores where we would part exchange your beloved books for new stories to transport you to faraway places. However, as shopping started to evolve to online shops and marketplaces, we bid our stores goodbye to become ?PBShop.? This transition has only allowed us to blossom as we now ship thousands of titles to book lovers across the globe. We pride ourselves in being a community of local book lovers which allows our passion and devotion to shine in everything we do. In 2020 we not only celebrated our 20th birthday but our 1st birthday as being completely employee owned after becoming an E.O.T in September 2019.
