In recent years, Universities in the UK have been encouraged to evaluate what they do through the lens of the students' experience. This has resulted in an increasing institutional interest and awareness in the way in which students integrate higher education with their life beyond the campus. Student Support Services in some universities have been inspired by the visionary report 'Learning Reconsidered: A Campus-wide Focus on the Student Experience' (NASPA and ACPA 2004). We hope that this book will encourage and be of value to those who make decisions or who create policies relating to the student experience.

About the Author

Norman Jackson is Director of the Lifewide Education Community Interest Company, a not for profit organisation which aims to raise awareness and support the development of a lifewide approach to education. He is also Emeritus Professor of Higher Education at the University of Surrey where he spent five years as Director of the Surrey Centre for Excellence in Professional Training and Education (SCEPTrE). The concepts of lifewide learning and lifewide education were developed through the work of the SCEPTrE Centre but their origin can be traced to his work on creativity in higher education undertaken while he was a Senior Advisor with the Higher Education Academy.
