"Learning a New Language" is a comprehensive guide to the methodology and psychology behind acquiring a foreign tongue. Written by Claude Crawford and Edna Leitzell, this pedagogical work delves into the fundamental principles of language study, offering insights into how students can more effectively master vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation.

The text provides practical advice for both learners and instructors, focusing on the development of efficient study habits and the psychological mechanisms that facilitate linguistic fluency. Topics covered include the acquisition of a new sound system, the expansion of active vocabulary, and the transition from mechanical translation to natural expression. By emphasizing the connection between language and thought, the authors provide a framework for understanding the challenges of cross-cultural communication.

Serving as an important historical overview of early 20th-century educational theory, "Learning a New Language" remains a valuable resource for anyone interested in the evolution of language instruction and the timeless techniques that help bridge the gap between different cultures and speech communities.
