As BRAC was founded, in 1972, Henry Kissinger described newly independent Bangladesh as the world's next basket case. F. H. Abed, the founder of BRAC saw it differently, creating a vision of "A just, enlightened, healthy, and democratic Bangladesh free from hunger, poverty, environmental degradation and all forms of exploitation based on age, sex, religion and ethnicity". And he set about to do that, proving Kissinger a cynic, if not worse. In this book, Jon Rohde and colleagues trace the history of BRAC's efforts in health, and document how it is contributing to making Health for All a reality. BRAC's health programmes now reach over 80 million of Bangladesh's population.
