In dem Buch stellt der Autor das Leben und Werk Rankes vor, um eine Gesamtdarstellung des Historikers zu geben, die es erlaubt, die Geschichtsschreibung Rankes zu verstehen. Ranke war in seiner akademischen Laufbahn sehr produktiv und schrieb �ber 60 B�nde. Jedes einzelne Werk wird vorgestellt, inhaltlich zusammengefasst und in den pers�nlichen und historischen Kontext gesetzt. Aufgrund seiner Produktivit�t wurde Ranke h�ufig kritisiert; der Autor stellt �ber 80 verschiedene Rezensionen vor, die dem Leser einen �berblick �ber die Auffassungen geben.

About the Author

Andreas Dieter Boldt unterrichtet Geschichte und Germanistik an der Maynooth Universit�t in Irland. Seine Dissertation schrieb er �ber Ranke und Irland und den Einfluss seines Privatlebens auf seine Geschichtsschreibung. Urspr�nglich aus Bremen studierte Boldt zun�chst in Maynooth und unterrichtet dort seit 1999. Boldts Interessen liegen im Bereich der Geschichtsschreibung, Geschichtstheorie, Europ�ische Geschichte und Umweltgeschichte.
