Synopsis

The publication brings together more than 100 images, sculptures and video works that pursue questions of identity, societal expression, but also existential areas such as life and death in a very sensual and convincingly provocative way. Highlights and works from the Reydan Weiss collection will be presented. In addition to renowned artists such as Cindy Sherman, Nathalie Djurberg, Bettina Rheims, Gerhard Richter, Anselm Kiefer and Robert Longo, the exhibition presents many surprising new works, including African, Oceanic, Chinese, Japanese, Latin and Caribbean positions Enduring cultural and individual differences, tradition and modernity is a central theme of the exhibition. Examples of this are the changing photographs of Cindy Sherman, the most strange figures of Charles Fréger, and the figure of Mircea Suciu, which is not only threatening at first sight. But also questions such as life and death, beauty and age sound convincingly in many of the works shown. Again and again the question arises as to how the diversity, and sometimes the exclusivity, of the modes of thought and the claims may have a side by side. Transferred to the sphere of art, this means whether and in what way a connection between aesthetics and ethics can exist and can be experienced in the work of art.
