Lectures on Anatomy, Surgery, and Pathology: Including Observations on the Nature and Treatment of Local Diseases : Delivered at St. Bartholomew's Hospital

Lectures On Anatomy, Surgery, And Pathology: Including Observations On The Nature And Treatment Of Local Diseases : Delivered At St Bartholomew's Hospital by John Abernethy presents a comprehensive course of medical lectures delivered at St Bartholomew's Hospital, exploring the structure and function of the human body, its organs, and the diseases that can affect them. The work surveys anatomy, physiology, and pathology, and emphasizes the relation between healthy structure and disease. It covers the mechanism of joints, muscles, blood and nerve systems, and describes the surgical treatment of injuries, inflammations, abscesses, chronic ulcers, tumors, and the management of clinical cases in hospital settings. The lectures advocate observation, reasoned diagnosis, and the physician's responsibility to balance new knowledge with practical patient care, with particular attention to the role of hospitals as schools of instruction and to the influence of anatomical study on medical science.
