Contemporary calf. Spine rubbed, slightly nicked at head and worn at tail, lettering-label slightly chipped, covers slightly marked, corners a little worn. Second edition (first edition 1835), with the ownership inscription, "Francis Edward Scott. Revd J. Wilder's. Eton College. Bucks. September. 29. 1839", and with a Scott armorial bookplate. Sir Francis Edward Scott Bt (1824-1863), of Great Barr Hall, was born a baronet, interestingly, through his mother, and succeeded his father, 1851, in a second baronetcy. From Eton he went up to Christ Church, Oxford; Macbride was Principal of Magdalen Hall, Oxford.
