An especially timely work, the book is an introduction to the theory of p-adic L-functions originated by Kubota and Leopoldt in 1964 as p-adic analogues of the classical L-functions of Dirichlet.
Professor Iwasawa reviews the classical results on Dirichlet's L-functions and sketches a proof for some of them. Next he defines generalized Bernoulli numbers and discusses some of their fundamental properties. Continuing, he defines p-adic L-functions, proves their existence and uniqueness, and treats p-adic logarithms and p-adic regulators. He proves a formula of Leopoldt for the values of p-adic L-functions at s=1. The formula was announced in 1964, but a proof has never before been published. Finally, he discusses some applications, especially the strong relationship with cyclotomic fields.

Terms of sale
We are pleased to receive orders via the Abebooks shopping basket. VISITS: PRIOR NOTICE is needed if you would like to PICK UP a book from our shop. Our listed books are not on the public access shelves, though duplicates might be. You could use Ask Bookseller a Question, beneath the book description, and type something like: Can I pick up this book at the weekend. This minimizes the keyboard work you need to do. Or communicate with us in any other way. Much of our stock will probably never be listed so a visit can be rewarding. There are many good cheap cafes in Newtown, an emerging tourist area, close to the Sydney CBD, and many customers make a day of it.
Shipping terms
Orders usually ship within 3 business days, unless Express or Courier services are requested. For overweight books, we will seldom apply for extra postage (even though we may warn of this in the description) as we have recently got a low contract postage rate through the Australian Booksellers¿ Association.
