Lectures on Scripture, Vol. 1 of 2: Facts and Prophecy (Classic Reprint)

A careful exploration of biblical authors, motives, and the power of prophecy that shapes belief.

This edition examines how the writers of the Bible are viewed as wise and devout men, whose lives and work invite readers to judge truth by integrity, motive, and evidence. It argues that the prophets and apostles spoke from genuine purpose and that prophecy points toward a larger, outward change in the world.

In clear, accessible language, the book assesses the character of key biblical figures and the reliability of their writings. It contrasts biblical writers with critics, and it traces how belief in prophecy has informed faith, practice, and the history of interpretation. The author builds a case for the sincerity of religious motivation and more broadly for the transformative potential of a prophetic faith in everyday life.

• How biblical authors are portrayed as intelligent, conscientious, and devoted to truth
• Arguments about motives, honesty, and the need to evaluate claims by evidence
• Discussion of prophecy’s promise and its role in guiding belief and action
• Connections between ancient texts and their enduring influence on readers today

Ideal for readers seeking a thoughtful, historical perspective on scripture, prophecy, and the authors behind the Bible. It offers a foundational view for anyone exploring how faith meets reason in the study of sacred writings.
