Leone Leoni, a novel by George Sand. Reprint published in 1978 by Cassandra Editions of the Translation by George Burnham Ives. Hardcover format. This edition OP. The life of George Sand (Amantine Lucille Aurore Dupin) reads like one of her romantic stories. This novelist, memoirist, literary critic and political commentator -- a true celebrity of her time -- led one of the most exquisitely romantic lives of any contemporary writer. This beautiful French woman knew many of the intellectual and artistic luminaries of her time; she had romantic affairs with Frederick Chopin, Jules Sandeau, Prosper Mérimée, Alfred de Musset and several others; she maintained a close correspondence with Gustave Flaubert and actress Marie Dorvai. Where and when did she find the time - in between her socialist political writings, literary criticism, and whirlwind social life - to compose her many novels? But write them she did, and they were very popular. Perusing "Leone Leoni", one understands (even though it is a translation) the why of such popularity. A clear, but supple prose, enticing the reader with stories that beguile - Sand was no literary want-to-be.
