The Lessons of Aloha: Stories of the Human Spirit

Hawaii¹s people have powerful stories to tell, exemplified by the inspirational tales in The Lessons of Aloha--Stories of the Human Spirit. Popular Hawaiian entertainer Brother Noland and award-winning photographer Shuzo Uemoto introduce 40 remarkable islanders--teachers and coaches, artists and entrepreneurs, healers and heroes. They are farmers and fishermen who learn from the land, executives who give back to the community, kupuna (elders) who keep the old ways alive and plain folks who¹ve conquered addiction and personal tragedy--drugs, prostitution, physical handicaps, a gunpoint hostage situation. These are the compelling, real-life stories of island people, told in their own words.

A pioneer in contemporary Hawaiian music, Brother Noland is a Native Hawaiian songwriter and performer with an international following. He works extensively with youth and senior citizen groups, sharing his Hawaiian heritage and cultural values.
