I. The Value of Birds to Man
II. How Birds are Protected.
III. How Children Can Assist
Robie W. Tufts (1884-1982) has been called the father of migratory bird science in the Maritimes. Born in Nova Scotia, he worked in banking while pursuing bird conservation, becoming Chief Federal Migratory Birds Officer in 1919. He particularly pursued education of the public in the conservation of birds.
Harrison Flint Lewis (1893-1974) was the first director of the Canadian Wildlife Service. Originally from Sag Harbor, Long Island, New York, he became Chief Migratory Birds Officer for Ontario and Quebec before relocating to Nova Scotia. There, with Robie W. Tufts, they created the Nova Scotia Bird Society in 1955, of which he was one of the first presidents.
James A. Munro was the first Chief Migratory Birds Officer for British Columbia, and published over 175 works on the birds and environment of the province.
