About the Author

David Bishop is a retired school principal and now a general contractor. He founded the Pathways to Independence Foundation with his wife in 1991 to provide a comprehensive support system for young women who come from abuse and poverty. Helping hurt and neglected women succeed is his passion and purpose in life.

Candice Hessel is a Pathways graduate. Through hard work and the gift of dedicated professional support, she has overcome incredible adversity. On her journey, she bonded to her father-figure mentor, David Bishop, and the two recently completed an adult adoption. Having earned a B.S. in Health Science from Cal State University, Fullerton, and her nursing license from Western University, Candice is now in medical school studying to be a nurse practitioner.
