Sheet 42x27cm folded in half with 1pp letter to front panel only 21x27cm (the other 3 panels blank). Good, further folded into 8 panels with closed tears, lightly creased and tanned. This has the letterhead of the Minister's Office in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is dated Paris 23 July 1913. The typed letter with small ms correction, is signed and ink stamped by Berthelot, the Director of the Minister's Office and Personnel, on behalf of the Minister. The Minister was at this time Stephen Pichon. The signatory is Philippe Berthelot (1866-1934), who had joined the Ministry in 1902. He became one of the most important French diplomats of the period, heading the Minister's Office until 1920, when he was promoted to Secretary General. This letter informs the French Consuls in Syria, Lebanon and Palestine that the lawyer Marcel Myrtil will be visiting, asking them to take care of him and provide any assistance needed. This pre-dates WW1 and the Arab Revolt, when these territories were still Ottoman. The purpose of this wide-ranging visit is not stated, and nor is there an itinerary.
