This includes accounts of various peace meetings, actual battles, including the battles of Sand Butte and Dry Lake. The Modoc War began through misunderstandings of intentions between white settlers and native tribes, with tensions escalating after killings on both sides, including members of the peace commission sent by Ulysses S.
