Two Volumes. Hardback, small approx 5.5 x 3.5 inches. In full tree calf leather fine bindings. With gilt decorations to spines and gilt lettering to black leather spine labels. In very good conditions. Some rubbing to spines, some minor rubbing to edges, corners slightly bumped. Bookplate to endpaper of vol.1 ?Sir Charles Staveley.? Gutters cracked. A couple of minor handling marks, minor ink splash to p3 vol.1. Else pages all very clean and tight throughout. 257 & 217pp. Illustrated with B&W engraved portrait plates. The psydonym "Junius", and the letters first publ.in the "Public Advertiser" in 1769-1772, were attributed to "nearly every celebrated man of the time ( and some obscure ones too) ". The author is not authoritatively ascertained. SIR PHILIP FRANCIS (1740 - 1818) was noted for his many pamphlets, and he encouraged his second wife in her belief that he was the author of the Letters of Junius. (Chambers).
