A collection of letters to great authors, by Andrew Lang. With a letter from the author. A collection of letters to deceased great authors, including: Thackeray, Dickens, Austen, Dumas, Walter Scott, Bysshe Shelley, Burns, and Byron. Sixteen of these letters originally appeared in the St. James Gazette from which they are now reprinted. Written by Andrew Lang, a Scottish poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. With letter from the author at Alleyne House, St Andrews in Scotland that reads: "Sir, My handwriting is indeed debased, thanks to the hurried replies to unknown and undesired persons. This is written with due deliberation: I hope it is decipherable and intelligible, and I return your photograph. I am Obediently yours A Lang" In the original quarter vellum binding with red cloth boards. Externally, sound with light shelf wear and bumping to the extremities. Discolouration to the vellum, as is usual. Previous owner's bookplate to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean. Good. Seller Inventory # 845T26
