Book condition: good, very scarce 1816 publication, volume I offers 25 letters covering a wide variety of topics such as Herculaneum pottery, prostitutes, cleanliness of the servants, observations on stage traveling, prejudices of Englishmen regarding the United States, the mode of making coak, disgraceful inscription on a monument and much more, full leather binding shows moderate scuffing to front board and corners, a bit more to spine and back board, red title block on spine features bright gilt, small piece off spine tail, a 1" X .5" chip off spine head, front hinge cracked with play, chip off back endpaper is affixed to back pastedown, a few small spots on fore edges, light to moderate foxing throughout, a few pages heavy but all text legible, binding firm, 355 pages with extensive notes followed by two pages of places visited by the author, binding firm, 5.5 X 8.5 inches.
