Letters On Some Of The Events Of The Revolutionary War By R.B. Bernard Richard Boyle Bernard presents a multi–letter historical survey of the French Revolution and the wars that followed, written as a series of letters (Letters I–XXIV). The work traces the rise and fall of revolutionary France from the outbreak of the French Revolution in 1789 through the Napoleonic era, analyzing political events, alliances, battles, and treaties across Europe. It emphasizes Britain’s perspective, the balance of power, religious and moral considerations, and providential interpretations of world events. The author discusses the opening of the Estates-General, the destruction of the Bastille, the execution of Louis XVI, the Reign of Terror, the Directory, and the rise of Buonaparte, followed by campaigns in Italy, Germany, Egypt, Spain, and Russia. The book combines narrative history with political commentary, aiming to illuminate the great events that shaped modern Europe and Britain’s role within them.
