Small Octavo. . viii, 232 pages. Orson Spencer converted to the Church of the Latter-Day Saints after having been a leading pastor in the Baptist church. After his departure, a Baptist pastor Rev. William Crowel wrote him about his departure. Spencer became the leading theologian of Mormon thought in the late 19th century. Crowell wrote asking questions about the identity of Joseph Smith and about the city of Nauvoo. Spencer's answer tells of his conversion and much about Nauvoo before the persecution of the Mormons and execution of Joseph and Hyrum Smith. Bound in dark brown morocco ruled in blind, spine lettering gilt, very light wear to spine ends and corners. A very nice copy. Seller Inventory # 032078
