About this Item
A collection of the correspondence of Lady Russell, the seventeenth-century noblewoman. The sixth edition. In a smart half calf binding. With two engraved plates and a frontispiece by C. Knight. Collated complete. Lady Rachel Russell was an English noblewoman, heiress and author whose second husband was the politician Lord William Russell. Lord Russell was a leading member in the Country Party and was implicated in the Rye House Plot which lead to his execution. This collection of correspondence features an introduction vindicating the character of Lord Russell against Sir John Dalrymple with the additional 'Trial of Lord William Russell for High Treason', extracted from the State Trials. With a publisher's advertisement to the front. In a half calf binding. Externally, very smart with some light rubbing and some fading to the spine. Minor offsetting to the paste-downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very bright and clean with some light age-toning and spotting, heavier surrounding the plates. The occasional closed tear throughout. Offsetting to the title page and frontispiece. A small tear to the edge of the title page. Very Good Indeed. Seller Inventory # 829G13
