The Letters And The Life Of Francis Bacon Including All His Occasional Works: Namely Letters, Speeches, Tracts, State Papers, Memorials, Devices And All Authentic Writings Not Already Printed Among His Philosophical, Literary, Or Professional Works by Francis Bacon presents a documentary portrait of the early modern thinker as he navigates the intersections of law, finance, and governance in Jacobean England. The excerpts summarized here cover Bacon's correspondence and planning around the Great Instauration; his participation in the Great Contract debates and the impositions controversy under James I; his role as a rhetor and commentator in parliamentary strategy; and his editorial activity with Camden’s Annales. The local and political material reveals Bacon’s dual program: reforming knowledge and reforming statecraft, from organizing memory and finances to shaping the balance between Crown prerogative and Parliament. It also includes private memoranda outlining a long-term project for scientific and institutional reform, foreshadowing his broader enterprise.
