Classic study on the impact of the study of history on one s reactions to current events. Bolingbroke s epistolary study is considered the first to examine the impact of the past on current events (to put it simply). Among those affected by these letters was Voltaire along with the young Lord Cornbury, later Lord Hyde. In very good condition, there is a bookplate of the last owner covering the name of the owner before that. There is also a place where someone has written a response to the text in ink and has written a brief biographical note on Bolingbroke. These seem to be limited to the the first and second letter and are dated 1956. A notation is on the back board on the inside, there is a bit of leather missing on back outside and a minor split on the front near the bottom of the spine. Good Condition: 8vo, leather binding, some foxing and damp. Bookplate on front board, writing on back board. Marginalia. Age appropriate page discoloration. Letters on the Study and Use of History.
