About this Item
Hardcover. Reprint of 1866 English translation of Denmark edition with a Preface by George MacDonald, L.L.D.; ix; 350 pps. including index. No author's name noted; only translator L.W.J.S. Publisher's black cloth with stamped red letters on front and spine. Binding tight; corners bumped and scuffed. Vintage 1902 inked signature on ffep. Covers shelf worn with spots and loss of color. Book has obviously been exposed to moisture sometime in its 123 years leaving pale water marks and ripply pages but thanks to the publisher's use of quality materials, it has survived in relatively good condition as if it had gone through its own hell. An uncommon edition. 7.5 x 5.25" w. "The narrator, Otto, who has died in the prime of life, relates the torments and regrets that are a consequence of the self-centered and dissipated life he led in the world. He also describes the fates of other lost souls who inhabit Hell, concluding with the arrival in Hell of the narrator's mother."/ Wikipedia. Seller Inventory # 23127
