About the book >.>.> *Letters from Tehran* presents Reader Bullard?s letters and selected Foreign Office despatches from his time as British Ambassador to Tehran during the Second World War. From Iran, an important conduit between the West and the Soviet Union, Bullard observed the Allied war effort and the political changes taking place in the country. The book covers the Anglo-Russian occupation of Iran, the abdication and exile of Reza Shah, and the succession of the young shah. Letters written around the 1943 Tehran Conference offer Bullard?s perspective on the meeting of Churchill, Stalin and Roosevelt. His correspondence also records his observations of Iranian politics and society at a turning point in the nation?s history. Described by Winston Churchill as ?a tough Briton, with no illusions?, Bullard wrote lengthy letters to his family in England as well as official reports. Together, these writings provide an account of wartime events and a source for the study of modern Iranian history. (SP).…
