London. Sidgwick & Jackson. 1945. This is the second impression of the work; the first was published in the same year. This is a very scarce title in this UK Sidgwick and Jackson edition. Red boards with rubbing and bumping at spine ends, monochrome frontis of Rilke. Very faint age toning. Condition is very good. The dust wrapper is unclipped but unfortunately separated into two pieces at the spine. The jacket is also heavily rubbed along the edges. Once in protective sheet, it holds together well. A collection of ten letters written by Bohemian-Austrian poet Rainer Maria Rilke to Franz Xaver Kappus, a 19-year-old officer cadet at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt. Translated by Reginald Snell.
