Letters on the state of Christianity in India: In which the conversion of the Hindoos is considered as impracticable

About The Book: Letters on the State of Christianity in India by Abbé J.A. Dubois critiques the challenges faced by Christian missionaries in converting Hindus. Dubois argues that conversion is impracticable due to the deep-rooted cultural, social, and religious structures of Hinduism. He highlights the strong social ties, the complexity of Hindu beliefs, and the resistance to abandoning traditions as major obstacles. Additionally, he suggests that missionaries often misunderstood Hinduism, making their efforts ineffective. Dubois concludes that conversion required a more thoughtful, gradual approach.
