A scarce uniformly bound three volume, illustrated collection of Prevost's popular Lettres a Francoise. The first volume, Lettres a Francoise, is illustrated throughout by Albert Guillaume with an illustrated frontispiece of a young woman reading. The works are a collection of wise counsel to young girls and offer an ideal program of education for young girls. The books were more widely read than the author's novels. Marcel Prevost was a French novelist who made a sensation in France in the 1890's with stories purporting to show the corrupting effect of Parisian education and Parisian society on young women. The first volume coves a wide range of topics, such as history and art while the second and third become more focused on marriage and becoming a mother. The second volume discusses, the motivations for marriage, multiple marriages, how civilised the twentieth century is and asks what about love The final volume explores egotism, balancing discipline and joy, the formation of morality in children and many other topics.
